OMG I got to design a doll! Meet Amelia

Posted by on

I'm so happy to finally be able to talk about Amelia! Amelia is the recently announced PullipStyle Exclusive. She isn't up for orders yet, but will be soon. Amelia is a "Creators Label" doll, in that she was designed by fans instead of the company. In this case, she was designed by Klein aka Pullip Junk and myself! Klein had been encouraging PullipStyle to do another store exclusive, so when they asked her what kind of doll she'd like she gave them a bunch of ideas (but I'll let her talk about that) But Klein isn't a customizer, so when...

Meet the new Barbies: Tall, Curvy & Petite

Posted by on

Barbie, the 'standard' fashion doll size for over 50 years, has now evolved into 4 body shapes: Regular (I have since been told Mattel gave this size the more elegant name of 'classic'), Tall, Curvy, & Petite! Choice is good, but instead of fashions being one size fits all, they are one size fits...some? Kind of like shopping for real girls, now! Actually, it's still nowhere near that complicated, but but we'll get to that later.  First, let's look at the changes: Same picture as the previous one, but with reference lines added to help you see where the differences...

Yeolume Review

Posted by on

Yeolume came out a while ago. And then she disappeared. Literally. The company website doesn't even show her existing anymore. There were 2 dolls made (this is the first) and... well yeah. She didn't exactly win the hearts and minds of the public. But she's still a member of the pullip family. This is my review, which is more of an analysis than anything else. TONS of pictures ahead Here she is stripped of all her distracting clothes and hair, so we can see the doll itself. She has a blythe-like body, with bendy arms/legs instead of joints like the...

Topic Request: How I customize dolls

Posted by on

First topic request!  While I have chronicled the various extreme customization projects I've done, I am not as good at chronicling the mundane.  Sand a face off, slap some paint on there, add eyes... done!   Eventually.  Several hours (or days) later.  And after much swearing and occasionally bleeding.  But that's the gist.  There are MANY pictures from this series, so if you want to see the full set, go here. Step 1: Decide what I want to do.  Lots of people do this different ways.  Some people sketch out their ideas.  I don't usually need to sketch things out, but...

Extreme Customization Pt 3 (Finishing Touches)

Posted by on

Part 3 of extreme customization! (See parts 1 and 2) Pullip Junk has a thing for Joker, and when this doll started coming out creepy instead of cute, asked me to finish it in Duela Dent style, which was basically 'whatever you want, but joker-ish plz' The outfit took me about 7 hours to do. Duela is on a 25cm obitsu, a body I haven't worked with before. It's 'teen' sized. The shorter body seemed to fit her personality better. Not quite the moxie of an adult shaped type 1, but still a bit more energetic in feel than a...
